Today’s papers have contained the most moving images I’ve seen from World War One: once black and white, now colour, pictures of men and women who look just like you and me, but whose lives were touched unforgettably by war.

But below are a few to look at and lose yourself in.
First are Hertfordshire Territorial Force soldiers at a training camp just before the outbreak of war. Secondly, some soldiers on a station platform, about to head for France. And finally, a girl sitting on a Canadian trooper’s horse.
